Legitimate and Illegitimate Industries / Opportunities Empty Legitimate and Illegitimate Industries / Opportunities

On FERP, legitimate and illegitimate industries were mostly created by players contacting admins and requesting funds to either set up a legal business or simulate revenue from an illegal industry, such as peddling drugs. Opportunities were also requested to steal goods through heists.

Vancouver Megacity is a megacity. Our setting would be filled with millions of people. We are also confined to a single district. As we are all roleplayers, we are all (hopefully) creative. As admins, we are all interested in hearing proposals for legal and criminal opportunities that will stimulate RP and the in-server economy.

While us admins will be playing many of the characters that stir up this economy at first, all players should feel welcome to join our Discord or add one of us on Steam to discuss a possible opportunity. For example, on most servers it is very hard to pull off something like a heist. With a limited playerbase and economy, there may be either not a valid business to rob, or just not enough manpower to make it feasible.

Plus, most players aren't interested in running a bank or a simple warehouse. Most player-ran businesses are made to stimulate passive roleplay, such as restaurants, or the economy, such as pawn-shops and gun dealers. Most of them wouldn't even have a real stock to hand over to anyone sticking them up, and wouldn't be a target for more then a few triggerhappy thugs.

For this reason, we will be coming up with a system for heists and other robberies that players can arrange to be setup as events on the server. All of these events will be high risk and high reward, and the conflict will usually be between players, instead of just players against event characters. For example, a bank heist would involve the crew behind it, a limited amount of event characters for bank staff, security, and those inside, followed by a police response. While we should all play to lose, it is harder to shrug off the consequences of one's mistakes when the RP is in a "player versus player" scenario.

To arrange such an event, speak to an admin. To prevent metagame, we should all do our best to keep these planned robberies away from most who aren't directly involved.

Now, onto legitimate and illegitimate industries.

Legitimate Industries.

If a player would like to open a restaurant or bar, all they have to do is ask an admin for pet flags and then set themselves up somewhere. If their business proves to be successful, and they express interest in hiring employees and such, they will be issued a salary that will represent the "real earnings" they would bring in. There would be more then forty or so people visiting a popular fast food or local food place in a densely packed megacity, but we can't simulate this on the server. For that reason, players will be provided a realistic supplement so that they can afford to hire employees and stimulate the economy.

Illegitimate Industries

There are usually very few characters on a roleplay server that do drugs. Playing a character with a drug addiction or habit is more expensive and tougher to pull off. For this reason, those interested in peddling drugs who can provide a good explanation of how the are doing it and set it up in character will be provided with a salary to represent their "real earnings." Unlike legitimate businesses, they aren't necessarily expected to stimulate the economy.

Other illegitimate industries include gun-running, counterfeiting, money laundering, virtual crime, and smuggling. If one can explain how they'd set up such an industry and pull it off in character, salaries and items will be given out to represent "real earnings" for these industries.

Those running industries should do their best to keep proper records of their funds and stock. While I will be keeping tabs on all industries' funds and stock, it makes it easier on the admin team if those running such businesses get in the habit themselves.
